Advantage West Midlands welcomed the news that a £100 million John Lewis department store is to be built adjacent to New Street station in Birmingham.
The 250,000 sq ft flagship store, scheduled to open in 2014, will be constructed on the south side of a redeveloped New Street station, creating 900 new jobs.
Mick Laverty, Chief Executive at Advantage West Midlands, said: “This landmark announcement by John Lewis is a massive vote of confidence from the private sector for the economic future of Birmingham and the West Midlands.
“All the hard work, commitment and determination of the project partners involved with the Birmingham Gateway Project at New Street have definitely helped secure a major business success.
“AWM’s £100 million investment in Gateway remains the biggest single investment of any RDA in the country and I am delighted it is helping to create a legacy from which the city and West Midlands region will benefit in years to come.”
